Clinton Community College and Coryer Staffing announce partnership offering professional micro-credential courses for RAMP participants

Plattsburgh—Clinton Community College and Coryer Staffing announce a new partnership featuring a professional micro-credential course in Advanced Manufacturing Essential Skills I. The self-paced hybrid online/lab-based training will give employees participating in Coryer Staffing’s RAMP program entry-level manufacturing skills.

The two organizations have a shared goal of creating opportunities that provide a foundation for continued strength and growth for members of the community. RAMP by Coryer Staffing specifically engages high school graduates with little work history and sets them on an upward trajectory through structure and guidance, skill development and training, and diverse work experiences. The micro-credential program will deliver formal skill development training at no cost to qualified RAMP participants, empowering this cohort to simultaneously continue their education and distinguish themselves as valuable employees in the workforce.

“We strongly believe in regional pipeline management as a way of building a balanced workforce and are grateful for the leadership at Clinton Community College for recognizing this need and developing the micro-credential course for RAMP participants,” said David Coryer, Coryer Staffing COO and co-founder. “One of RAMP’s greatest strengths is its ability to connect with high school students and show them the opportunities for world-class employment and education that exist in their own backyard. Our partnership with Clinton Community College brings industry and education together to serve this population in a way that has not been done before in our region.”

According to the New York Association of Training and Employment Professionals 2019 State of the Workforce Brief, the statewide youth unemployment rate is 20.7 percent for youth ages 16-19. Locally, high school guidance counselors estimate that 30 percent of seniors graduate with no plans for their future.

“Offering micro-credentials through Clinton Community College as part of the RAMP program has the capacity to have a dramatic, demographic influence on our community and prove that with structure and support, local high school graduates can reliably and capably fill entry-level positions in a variety of industries,” said Elizabeth Goerlitz-Coryer, Coryer Staffing CEO and co-founder. “The importance of moving forward and progressing upward is central to our philosophy on staffing and career guidance.”

Micro-credentials offered through Clinton Community College are intended to provide opportunities for industry/education connections and partnerships and be a flexible option for students. Advanced Manufacturing Essential Skills I is the first prerequisite for the Manufacturing Skill Standards Council Certified Production Technician Credential. This further extends the value of the Institute for Advanced Manufacturing in the community, designed and equipped to serve as a regional hub for manufacturing education.

Clinton Community College President Ray DiPasquale points out that this program will enable local employers to find trained people to fill the needs of their companies. It will also provide an excellent opportunity for our local students to gain skills needed for today’s workforce demands. The hybrid course consists of 26 hours online and six hours in the IAM lab at CCC and will build skills in: Safety Fundamentals, Mathematics for Technicians 1, Lock Out / Tag Out, Mechanical Fasteners, Hand Tools, Power Tools and Employability based on criteria set forth by the Manufacturing Skill Standards Council (MSSC).

John Kowal, Vice President for Academic Affairs at CCC stated “Micro-credentialing is a great way to provide for partnerships and connections for students and companies in our region. I look forward to working with this program to better the training and education of our local youth.”
